Denver man killed and family injured by drunk driver

For most people, July 4th is a time of celebration and spending time with the family. However, for one family, it is now marked by tragedy.

A father was killed and some of his family injured by a suspected drunk driver after watching fireworks with his family late on July 4th. The family was walking along U.S. Highway 34 when a drunk driver in a pickup truck hit five of the family members. The 50-year-old father was killed in the incident, while the mother and three of their children were injured. The injured family members were flown to the hospital for their injuries. There were five other children who were unharmed in the accident. The 33-year-old driver was arrested and is being charged with vehicular homicide, vehicular assault, child abuse and suspicion of driving under the influence. The driver had already been arrested for previous assaults and a DUI, to which he previously pled guilty.

Auto-pedestrian accidents can be some of the most gruesome accidents, because the damage dealt to the pedestrians is often much worse than when it is a multi-vehicle accident. For that reason, the suffering incurred by the victim and his family is usually great and medical expenses are usually extensive, as well. For that reason, a personal injury or wrongful death suit usually must be brought against the responsible party in order to help compensate the victim and his or her family for their losses. The suit can be used to recover not only those expenses, but also the pain and suffering of the victim and his family, as well as for any lost wages on the part of the victim. When the driver is charged with a crime, it typically makes recovery easier, as liability is not a question.

Recovering after the loss of a loved one is always difficult. Seeking out compensation through a wrongful death lawsuit can make that recovery easier, at least from a financial perspective.
